Rokujo is a multichannel audio-visual installation for 6 vertical array monitors and 21 speakers

Currently on view at NYU Steinherdt Building

Rokujo takes a deep dive into the art of Japanese calligraphy and the beauty of Japanese letters (called kanji) as it captures the movements of the brush strokes and use them as the input data for sonification. The goal is to cross-pollinate the expressional facets of kanji— logographic writing system that communicates the entire meaning of a word in a single letter— with auditory sounds that aim to magnify emotions evoked by these letters.
